Start a document, use autocomplete on your own draft, and add citations.

1

Create a document

Click + New in the sidebar. Enter your topic or a document prompt, or import a DOCX of your existing draft. Click Next, choose your citation preferences (such as publication recency and whether to include preprints), then pick an outline and click Start Writing.

2

Write with autocomplete

As you type, Jenni suggests a continuation in grey text based on your headings, earlier paragraphs and citations. Press the right arrow to accept, or keep typing to ignore it. You can turn autocomplete off in Document Settings (the gear icon).

3

Add citations

Type @ or click Cite to search for sources by title, author, DOI, URL or keyword, then insert one at your cursor. Jenni adds it to your reference list. Choose your citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard and more) in Document Settings → Citation Style.

4

Check every source

Open each cited source and confirm it says what your sentence claims. In Document Settings you can choose whether Jenni auto-cites from external sources, from PDFs in your Library, or neither.

Use it within your course rules

Check your course’s AI policy before using Jenni on assessed work, keep your drafts, and declare AI use where required. Autocomplete is a suggestion: make sure the argument and wording are yours. Our best AI essay writing tools guide covers academic integrity in detail.

Free plan limits

The free plan includes 10 AI autocompletes a day and unlimited citations. See is Jenni AI free? and Jenni AI price in Australia.
