Paste your text, pick a mode, set the synonym slider and check the result.
Add your text
Open the Paraphraser and type or paste into the left-hand box, or upload a document such as a DOCX or TXT file. Start with a paragraph you wrote yourself.
Pick a mode
Choose a mode from the bar above the text boxes. Free accounts get Standard (general rewording) and Fluency (fixes grammar with the fewest changes). Formal, Simple, Creative, Expand, Shorten, Humanizer and Custom are Premium.
Set the synonym slider
The Synonym Slider, to the right of the modes, has four levels: 1 changes the fewest words (more accurate), 4 the most (less accurate). It defaults to 2; free accounts can use levels 1–3 in supported modes.
Paraphrase, compare and refine
Click Paraphrase. Changed words are highlighted in the right-hand box. Click a word to see synonyms, or Rephrase for another version. Compare with your original and keep only changes that are clearer and still accurate, then copy or export.
Use it honestly
Rewording your own writing is normal editing. Paraphrasing someone else’s work without citing it is plagiarism, even if a tool did it. Follow your course or workplace rules, and cite ideas that came from sources.
Watch for meaning drift
Higher synonym settings change more words and, as QuillBot’s own help notes, may change your meaning. Check numbers, names, technical terms and words like “may” and “some”.
